Sony Venice (FF) + Rialto
Sony’s Venice Cinema camera is the culmination of their long line of broadcast cameras and shorter line of cinema cameras. Inspired by the ease-of-use of the Alexa family it adopted an easy surface menu and side panel to go with a cinema camera build.
Offering dual ISO of either 500ASA or 2500ASA to control exposure and noise floor in a variety of shooting conditions, this camera offers incredible performance at high ISO in very low lighting conditions. The 6K CMOS full-frame sensor runs from 3.8K up to 6K with differing sensor crops to meet the needs of your production. Married to the Sony R7 RAW recorder, recording codecs range from the Sony classic XAVC family in differing compressions alongside ProRes. The R7 offers RAW options, native uncompressed RAW in 4K only and X-OCN (extended tonal range original camera negative) options at other resolutions. Sony’s RAW offer, the X-OCN takes the RAW image data and encodes it in 16-bit with systematic benefits going into post-production. It’s still very much a RAW format. When you need your files to be a bit smaller you can choose to shoot in ProRes in 4:4:4:4 and 4:2:2.
The Venice offers monitoring in both Log and a processed output on different ports with the ability of LUTS to be loaded on and off the camera by SD card, ensuring you can use your favourite LUTS and get them quickly applied on-set. Sony offers its bespoke 3D LUTS for download free of charge as CUBE files.
Boasting an impressive internal ND range in single stop increments: 0.3, 0.6, 0.9, 1.2, 1.5, 1.8, 2.1, 2.4 alongside the ability of wireless connectivity; this is a modern camera for modern times.
Our Venice comes with an Arri cage for maximum integration with Arri accessories and third-party tools, as well as incorporating the Wooden camera ‘D-Box’ and power accessory strip to make the most of your camera builds. Rugged, durable and unrivalled performance in low-light make this a camera to be reckoned with.
When paired with the Rialto kit, the Sony Venice transforms into a nimble DSLR size camera. Whether you need to rig into tight spaces or have a light weight rapid handheld camera, the Rialtos possibilities are unique. The front of the camera separates from the main body of the camera with a digital cord, allowing all of the same recording features when configured in the standard studio mode, making it one of the most versatile camera options on the market.
The Sony Venice has been used to capture feature films such as “Zone of Interest” by Jonothan Glazer and “The Whale” from Darren Aranofsky.
