The Optex Excellence the gold standard in periscope/borescope lens systems. It has been copied many times but never matched. It is also revered as a macro system as it performs excellently at extreme close focus.

We supply it with both the straight borescope relay and the 90 degree periscope relay. The relay style imaging allows you to put the camera in places that it wouldn’t be possible to traditionally by essentially moving the film plane down the long barrel of the lens. In practice this allows you to push through tight gaps and/or put lights in places that would otherwise be obstructed by the camera and operator. It is also especially handy when working with miniatures.

It is sharp and contrasty when stopped down a smidge, yet as it was manufactured  it also has heaps of vintage character when desired.

Despite the brilliance of the design and the popularity of this lens system, designing it was so costly that Optex struggled to recoup its investment bringing the excellence system to market. In the end not many were produced and it is believed to have been the downfall of the company.
