With the addition of higher dynamic range, improved red sensitivity, a lower noise floor and customisable textures Arri has raised the bar again with the Alexa 35. 

It’s brand new Super 35+ 4.6K ALEV IV CMOS sensor builds up from the Arri chip you’ve grown to know and love. Enhanced sensitivity, greater latitude and unprecedented image control are just the beginning with the camera adding powerful new features at every stage of the image chain. 

With an extra 2.5 stops in your highlights and 1 stop in your shadows, the Alexa 35 is ready to capture the subtleties of a massive range of environments. 

Arri boast that 17.5 stops of latitude are available, particularly opening up deep shadow detail in conjunction with the ‘Shadow’ texture.

One of the real genius decisions in developing this camera is opening up your favourite S35 lenses for 4K production. Here we have a versatile camera system that can use a wide range of lenses, mounts and image circles. The 19 different recording formats include a 2K S16 mode in ProRes allowing 120fps through to uncompressed ARRIRAW at 3K and up. Frame rates vary at different formats and sensor crops with 4K 16:9 the best match for strictly S35 image circles at 100/120fps.

Unique to the Alexa 35, Arri’s constantly evolving textures offer image-makers the flexibility to control grain and contrast via direct manipulation of the MTF in the camera, offering a wide range of looks that can be applied. From shadow enhancement, low-light optimisation and skin tone priority to pre-defined textures such as ‘Nostalgia’. Baking in to the image these contrast and sensitivity choices are more akin to choosing film stocks than going to a safe place for creating your images in post.
